Described by Charpentier himself sometimes as an opera, sometimes as idyle en musique, Les Arts Florissants was written to depict a conflict between the arts. Represented by Music, Painting (originally sung by Charpentier himself), Poetry and Architecture, the Arts are shown flourishing under the reign of Peace thanks to the beneficial influence of King Louis XIV. Peace must confront War, personified by the character Discord and the chorus of Furies, whilst a second chorus of Warriors intervene in harmony with the Arts.
Using the surrounds of BMW Edge, and a specially designed and staged production, we will enchant you with a selection of French instrumental works, as well as his chamber opera, Les Arts Florissants.

Tickets $30/$25/$15
