Represented by Music, Painting (originally sung by Charpentier himself), Poetry and Architecture, the Arts are shown flourishing under the reign of Peace thanks to the beneficial influence of King Louis XIV. Peace must confront War, personified by the character Discord and the chorus of Furies, whilst a second chorus of Warriors intervene in harmony with the Arts.
